Position description
Accurately transmits messages between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, healthcare providers and clinical support staff at MCHS-FH. The Interpreter is responsible for sight translation of written materials during the course of an interpreting session only. Focuses on the patient/client as top priority.
Associate’s Degree in Medical Interpretation or healthcare-related field; or 4 years’ experience in a healthcare-related field with strong medical vocabulary; or National Certification through National Board of Certified Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience as Medical Interpreter strongly preferred. If the degree is obtained from a school outside the United States, a copy of the official transcript/degree is required. The interpreter must demonstrate fluency in English and the target language, including testing with the Language Line University Interpreter Skills Test (LTI) with minimal results outlined as follows: terminology score of 75% or higher; Communicative Skills and Language Proficiency Scores of 3 or higher; Significant Errors of 3 or less. Must be able to read and write in English and the target language. Must have knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to be served and have good interpersonal, customer service, time management, basic computer and multi-tasking skills. Must be self-driven and highly motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as within a collaborative team.
Additional qualifications
A basic understanding of medical protocol and terminology required. Comfortable discussing sensitive or personal issues, and understanding and presenting information of a scientific or technical nature. Ability to interact well with people and work as part of a team. Basic computer skills.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $19.79 per hour.

Schedule details
Scheduled hours typically fall between 6am and 6pm. This position requires flexibility to ensure the scheduled needs of patients are met.
Weekend schedule
May be called for urgent care needs. However, if the interpreter has the availability, it is strongly encouraged for them to respond. Bonus pay for responding will be compensated.
