Position description

The Gastroenterology & Hepatology Acute Care Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (NPPA) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to care for inpatients with gastroenterological or hepatological concerns by providing: comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, specialized procedures, and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. This position will be primarily hospital-based though will have a weekly post-discharge clinic to promote continuity of care and prevent readmission. Involvement in education, research and quality improvement available based on candidate interest and practice need.

  • Previous gastroenterology experience as an advanced practice provider preferred
  • 2-5 years of clinical experience as an advanced practice provider required

License or certification
For Nurse Practitioners:
  • Current RN license, Advanced Practice Certificate, and Prescribing and Dispensing Certificate in Arizona
  • Acute Care Certification as nurse practitioner by an approved certifying organization
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire
For Physician Assistants:
  • Graduation from a university program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant
  • Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Active Arizona License issued by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire

Schedule details
There will be no call, no nights and no holiday service required. Standard hours would be 7a-4p. We would like the staff member to work a standard schedule of five days per week including one weekend day. The standard days worked and unworked would be determined by the staff member.
