Position description
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner performs these tasks in any of these authorized settings: (clinics, hospitals and/or ambulatory surgery centers). Tasks may include: Obtaining patient history, performing physical examinations, ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic testing and procedures, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, offering counseling and education to meet patient needs, make appropriate referrals and prescribing and dispensing prescription medication. Assists and executes bedside procedures according to specialized competencies maintained in the credentialing office and as approved by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation and the Board of Medicine. Actively participating in state licensing and hospital credentialing process. Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Active in professional organization and participates in community activities.

Additional Requirements: In addition to the above requirement the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will complete the following: Achieve completed credentialing to perform specialized procedures as described on the specialized procedural competency list maintained by the credentialing office within one year of hire. Participation in patient care responsibilities within a hospital / inpatient setting that can include but not limited to rounds, service or shift work. Performs specialized procedures per competency maintained in the Medical Staff Office. Provides evaluations and consultations with indirect supervision. Provides 24/7 response to specialized service response teams as assigned. Provides 24/7 assistance to any departmental subspecialty group facing unexpected changes in acuity and/or census. Participation in research leading to abstract submission within a two-year time period. Takes Call Assignments. Participation in other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Clinical Practice.
Nurse Practitioner:
Must be a graduate of an accredited university, Master of Science in Nursing required (If licensed prior to 1998, Master’s degree not required by the State of Florida). Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an ARNP in the State of Florida.

Physician Assistant:
Must be a graduate of an accredited university, NCCPA Certification required
Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a PA in the State of Florida.
Additional qualifications
Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, organizational and self-directive skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to work with others to accomplish goals through collaboration and coordination. Ability to collect, compare, sort and prioritize information to be used in the decision-making process. Ability to flex work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate the needs of the practice. Strong computer skills and electronic medical record experience preferred. Orthopedic Surgery procedural experience preferred. Participation in research leading to abstract submission within a two-year time period preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
License or certification
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Florida.
BLS and/or ACLS required in specific areas.
Nurse Practitioners: Certification by the ANCC or AANP is required
Physician Assistants: NCCPA certification is required.
