Why Mayo Clinic
Join a team where development engineering intersects with world-class healthcare delivery and research. The Division of Engineering designs and implements innovative solutions for a wide variety of priorities at Mayo Clinic. We are a unique resource for a healthcare institution, and one that helps Mayo Clinic maintain its #1 rating in the country for healthcare delivery.
Diversity and inclusion are integral to Mayo Clinic's mission to provide excellent, culturally relevant care in a welcoming environment to patients from a wide variety of backgrounds. We are building a high performing and diverse mix of talented people, who bring a unique set of technical skills to enable advanced engineering capabilities.
The Project Manager / Senior Engineer (PM) leads project teams through the entire project life cycle to design and develop multi-disciplinary biomedical-related engineering systems. The PM will lead projects in partnership with a Technical Lead: the PM has broad responsibility for overall project activities that include interactions with physician champions, regulatory needs, critical path, aligning scope and value with best use of resources, and following safety processes; in contrast, the partner Technical Lead’s focus is the solution’s design, development, and verification.
The PM will provide work direction to project team members and ensure the project has appropriate resources for the technical needs of the project, as well as ensuring development processes are followed that will deliver novel products for use at Mayo Clinic.
The candidate must be able to work with limited oversight, taking responsibility to effectively and efficiently achieve the results of the project. The best qualified candidate will have previously demonstrated success in multi-disciplinary new product development in the electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines. They will have demonstrated leadership roles on projects and experience in project management. Experience with medical device development is desired but not required. The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is not required but is favorably viewed because it demonstrates aptitude applicable to this role. The PM should be able to discuss past success in an environment where work was ambiguous and day to day tasks not always well-defined.
The PM will not formally manage staff but does play a leadership role in the work unit, working with other project managers and management to move projects forward as well as oversee continuous improvement activities. The PM will oversee a wide variety of assignments, and manage diverse, concurrent activities. Skills in communicating and planning are key to this position.
